A new poll suggests the Steelers are No. 1 in the AFC North and will go to the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
The pollsters surveyed 8,000 NFL fans and found the Steelers were No. 2 in the NFL, with the Browns, Packers and Patriots rounding out the top five.
It’s a surprise the Steelers have won two straight games for the second straight season, with their only loss coming to the Saints.
Their biggest weakness was a 2-7 record in the second half of the season, but Pittsburgh improved from that to a 9-4 mark and has the league’s best record.
The pollsters found the NFL’s best-performing team, the Packers, had the best shot to make the playoffs.
They won nine games in a row from late October through the first half of December.
After that, they went 3-11 in December.
Pittsburgh finished 7-9 in January, 6-10 in February and 5-11 at the start of March.
They have a better record than the Browns (5-8), who finished 9-7.
The Browns, however, have a chance to make it eight straight.
They are 3-1 in the division this season.
The poll also suggested that if the Steelers make the postseason this season, they will have the best record in football.
The Browns’ playoff record is the best in the league and they have the worst record in its division.
